I am sorry, but what character? Because I am not aware of Lara having a character in the original games. The gameplay itself was disappointing as well, but I have a soft spot for Legend and anniversary because they still kept croft manor and as I said, Lara's character didn't do a 180. but at least Lara still resembled herself, and while the narrative was disappointing I enjoyed the character and her companions zip and Alister to a good degree. I'm aware the 2006 - 2008 series wasn't great either. What made me do that? I stopped playing Rise halfway through because of how fucking terrible it was, literally I couldn't finish it, I said fuck it, and played and finished the classics surprise surprise, the classics got finished with passion. And please don't tell me they're not as good as I think I played and finished TR1 through TR4 in 2018 to january of this year. I wouldn't be so disappointed with the series nowadays if it did either gameplay or story well.Įdit: I'm aware the 2006 - 2008 series wasn't great either. All the weapons feel the same, there's nothing the new reboots do well, they're just below average in everything narrative, characters, puzzles, combat and level design. The combat, while of course better than the classics is a literal bottom tier gears of war clone, you kill nothing but generic human enemies with no self preservation instincts to speak of, enemies with bows drop shotgun ammo. There's no meaningful platforming either in the new games, every ledge you can grab is magnetic, thus taking no finnese. I feel like Tomb Raider is just slapped on there for the brand name since 2013. At its core, the new games are extremely shallow for my standards. The puzzles in the newer games don't come close to the older games. The old games (classics) had interesting puzzles and TR3 especially was not linear. they introduce minimal differences is different playthroughs. are all badly done and don't help the game in any way. What matters is the gameplay, and you couldn't pay me to finish the reboots, they're that boring.Ĭrafting, the skill trees, etc. I disagree that the newer Lara is better done than old Lara, but that doesn't really matter to me.
